D&G Optical has made a good name for itself by making very high
quality refractor lenses. Their catalog lists apertures of 5, 6, 8
and 10 inches. They sell mounted objective lenses, complete optical
tube assemblies, mirrors, classical cassegrain optics and tube
assemblies, and other parts. They also make custom lenses up to 20
inches in diameter (20 inches is the limiting size of their optical
flat and interferometer). The products I have seen from them are of
extremely high quality. They do, however, take a long time to get,
and you may have to talk to co-owner Barry Greiner several times before
you get what you ordered. (See the link D&G Trouble for my
experience in ordering a lens.) They are working toward having stock
on hand of the 5 and 6 inch lenses for immediate delivery, but from
what I hear, they have not achieved this yet. In spite of the trouble I had in getting the items I ordered, I would recommend D&G for refractor objectives based on the very high quality of their products. - Dale Keller
