Dale Keller's New and Improved Equatorial Mount

Additional Pictures and Drawings

I've had a lot of questions about this split-ring mount, so I finally dug out my old pictures and my few remaining drawings for this webpage.

I must admit that I no longer use this mount. It was extremely stable, but it was also somewhat awkward. It was quite uncomfortable to lean over the mount to reach the eyepiece or the finder when the scope was pointing near the zenith, and also when it was anywhere within 10 or 20 degrees of Polaris. It would have been great for astrophotography, but it needed a much stronger clock drive motor.

Since I'm more of an observer than an astrophotographer, I went back to a dobsonian mount. Someday it will have an equatorial platform under it.

But if you want to build something like this mount, all of my photos and drawings are shown below. I'm sorry, but I have misplaced my schematics and firmware listings for the control electronics.
